Practical self defense for an impractical world.
The self defense is Krav Maga.
The self confidence is you.

Krav Maga is the official self-defense and fighting system of the Israeli defense forces and is favored by US law enforcement agencies. This wholly unique and original method was developed and refined during years of conflict. Krav Maga emphasizes easy to learn techniques that have been battle tested in real, life threatening confrontations.

This program is designed not only teach you how to protect yourself and your loved ones, but also to get you into the best shape of your life.

Although Krav Maga shares many techniques with other martial arts, such as karate, boxing, savate, muay thai, jujutsu, judo, kobudo and wrestling, the training is often quite different. It stresses fighting under worst-case conditions or from disadvantaged positions (for example, against several opponents, when protecting someone else, with one arm unusable, when dizzy, or against armed opponents). Unlike Karate there are no predefined sequences of moves or choreographed styles; instead Krav Maga emphasizes rapid learning and the retzev ("continuous combat motion"), with the sole imperative being effectiveness for either attack or defensive situations.

TYPICAL KRAV MAGA SESSION

A typical Krav Maga session mixes conditioning with self-defense teaching. As levels increase, the instructors focus a little more on complicated and less common types of attacks, such as knife attacks, hostage situations and defense under extreme duress. First, the instructor will run a drill to get the class's heart rates up.

Then, after stretching, the instructor will teach two or three self-defense techniques. In the beginning the techniques will either be combatives (punches, hammer-fists, elbows, and knees ) or grappling (breaking out of chokes or wrist-grabs, getting out from under an opponent while on one's back). After that, the class usually moves to a drill that combines the techniques just taught with an aerobic technique. Finally, there is one more drill that reviews and combines everything that has been taught in that day's session.

KRAV MAGA HISTORY

Krav Maga, which literally is translated as “contact combat” is one of the most lethal techniques for hand to hand combat in the world today. When it comes to this system of self defense you will find that every single technique focuses on maximum efficiency in conditions that are real to life. Before you can fully understand the principles and techniques that are used in Krav Maga, it is important that you first understand the rich history behind this martial art.

The founder of Krav Maga was Imi Lichtenfeld, who was born in Hungary. He grew up in Bratislava and was an experienced athlete. He earned a variety of different awards, both nationally and internationally, for wrestling, gymnastics, and boxing. All of this experience would later lead to his development of Krav Maga, a full bio of Mr. Lichtenfeld can be found by clicking here.

While for many years Krav Maga was only used in Israel, it eventually became popular throughout the world. The Krav Maga Association of Israel, which was headed up by Mr. Lichtenfeld, along with the Ministry of Education in Israel, held a six-week international instructors course in 1981 in Krav Maga. At the age of 71, Mr. Lichtenfeld himself supervised the course and met the man who would bring Krav Maga to the United States and become a trusted friend - Mr. Darren Levine.

Before his passing, Mr. Lichtenfeld granted two founder's diplomas, one of which was to Mr. Levine, giving him the honor to continue the teachings of this unique system in the United States.
