YOU ARE THE FIRST RESPONDER. WE WILL TEACH YOU HOW.

It will never happen in the Lowcountry right? Not in my kids’ school. Not at my office. Not during my concert. And what if it does? Will you be ready?

Fit to Fight™ founder Ryan Hoover has developed a program primarily designed to impact individual, corporate and campus safety procedures while recognizing the need for realistic training and solutions. These programs consider that many traditional “fixes” may be cost-prohibitive, impractical, politically unpalatable or simply ineffective. Our facility is the only Fit to Fight™ affiliate in the Lowcountry with this certification.

During the hands-on seminar you will receive instruction and practical application on proven techniques and strategies designed to increase survivability in an active shooter situation. Including combative training, pistol and rifle disarms, solo tackles, team tackles and training drills.

We are honored to offer these seminars for free to educational facilities and offer reduced rates for organizations/corporations interested. Please contact Ashley Bird for details.

“The idea of an active shooter is terrifying, sad, horrific, and unimaginable to most. However, the threat is real. Our previous school classroom procedures of how to handle an active shooter, always left me distraught… severely flawed and only produced one possible end result; tragedy. If I was a parent, I would want every school staff member who interacts with my child to be trained and have the confidence to handle an active shooter situation. More and more schools have started to invite AKD staff to train their teachers, answer questions and discuss the reality of what really happens when an active shooter walks onto school grounds. The seminar itself is very moving. Teachers know more than anyone the weight of being trusted with someone’s child; whether kindergarten or a senior, and all of our simulations drive that point even closer to home.”
— L. Dickerson | High School Teacher

“The Active Killer Defense Class is designed to equip and offer hands on training for persons with little or no experience in these types of situations. The techniques learned in the class are simple, effective, and easy to remember.”
— Captain Todd Mashburn | Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office

FOR THE RECORD: THE BIGGEST SECRET TO STOPPING AN ACTIVE SHOOTER
There may be a time when Americans could find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time — and confronted by an active shooter.

The Department of Homeland Security advises you should either run, hide or — as a last resort — fight the gunman.

For the Record reported on active-shooter defense training and spoke to instructor Ryan Hoover of Fit to Fight.  Hoover said that if you’re not armed and you have to neutralize a gunman, keep it simple. [view video]

REALISTIC RESPONSE TO ARMED SHOOTERS IN SCHOOLS
Any time the subject of an unarmed response versus an armed killer in a school comes up, the inevitable knee-jerk, uninformed responses are as predictable as a celebrity divorce. They go something like this:

  • “Just shoot them.”
  • “Arm the teachers.”
  • “That’s why I carry.”
  • “Get your CCW.”
  • “Bullet to the head.”
  • “You’re an idiot.”

Without fail, most responses will be some variant of these, and no matter how reasoned, impassioned, informed, or lucid the counter-arguments are, the confirmation bias is so strong, they are disregarded out of hand. Here’s my attempt to shine some light on the topic. [read more]
